Here at “The Alternate Reality” we indulge in a weekly round table discussion/good natured debate of cool comics, movies, TV and other pop culture related foolishness. Recorded in the heart of beautiful downtown Mount Greenwood at the Alternate Reality Studio Center, “The Alternate Reality” is hosted by our regular contributors of south-sides sages and the occasional guest. We’re coming to you weekly so give us a listen at the player link below, or click here to download.

It’s our sophomore effort and it doesn’t disappoint! The frightful four reassemble around the Alternate Reality round table for a lively discussion of horror in comics and on film. We start off with the in your face shocks of 50’s horror comics and their eventual fall out. From the lofty highs of Bill Gaines EC to the exploitive lows of Lev Gleason. Moving into film the psychology of horror through self identification and jeopardy in storytelling are brought into contrast from Hitchcock’s Psycho to the Walking Dead and others. We wrap things up with a discussion of when an everyday known is supplanted by a worse supernatural unknown and the changing face of horror.

Also discussed during the course of this episode: Reminiscing on the Midnight Special, 60’s Sci-Fi and the internet, Frederick Wertham and Seduction of the Innocent, Alan Moore’s the Killing Joke, Ads in Comics, mechanics of comics and the mechanics of horror, Tomb of Dracula, Swamp Thing/Animal Man and horror heroes, Batman rules DC, Blackest Night and super powered zombies. Our favorite horror films: Blair Witch Project, Shining, Oculus, House of the Devil, Phantasm, Candyman, Halloween and more!

In Part Two we shift gears to our current recommended reading picks: Captain America versus the Serpent Squad and Fox News, Paper Girls at Image, Jem and the Holograms & Power Up for all ages fun and finally, the Astonishing Ant Man!

We wrap the show up with our regular weekly, unscripted, and totally unrehearsed “sad or luxurious” challenge. This Week: SAD or LUXURIOUS?-Variant Covers on Comics.

WARNING: This episode is not intended for younger or more sensitive listeners, primarily because we’re all swearing right out of the box (really-like the first thing you hear! We’re so bad!!)
