So, you take your Aunt Sally to see Captain America Civil War
and it quickly turns into an exercise on catching her up on a
decade of movie continuity. You go to see Batman v Superman and
want to get back into reading comics but where to begin? .In this
episode the Fashionable Foursome are joined by special guest (and
returning comic reader) Adrian as they examine the good and bad
sides of the current comic boom. Will that success be sustainable
or is it painting itself into a corner of eventual collapse. How to
sustain that success while it’s here or is today’s comic publicity
boom destined to become the boom of the late 80’s-early 90’s.
Topics Discussed include: audio books, the heavy responsibility of
being “the comic book guy” in a group, walking dead and new comic
readers, preacher on AMC, comic book movie fatigue, Chris
Evans as Tyler, dead Hollywood formats, Civil War woes, over
complicated continuity alienates viewers or readers “outside of the
church”, Geoff Johns promotion in the DC Movie Universe,
Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy, comic adaptations of movies and
TV series, Marvels Star Wars comics, Batman/TMNT and the slow sales
boil, the decline of cross over books, Lumber Janes/Gotham Academy
cross over, Boom, Black Mask and Image as excellent portals for
finding accessible non superhero comic reading.
